For just over ten years I’ve been writing TechTips as a way to share websites, tools, gadgets, books, and basically anything I find that will help you (and your organization) increase revenue or reduce expenses — in other words, I’ve shared with you the best ways I’ve found to grow your business.

Toward that goal (and as many of you know), I have written a new book — The Bezos Letters: 14 Principles to Grow Your Business Like Amazon.

The print book comes out on September 17. My publisher, Morgan James, released the ebook and audiobook early and I’m excited to let you know that as of last Friday, The Bezos Letters debuted on both The Wall Street Journal and USA Today best seller lists.

Quite frankly, I’m a little stunned and extraordinary honored. On top of that, a few weeks ago, Morgan James sold the Foreign Rights (for international translations), and so far, six countries have bought the rights: Korea, Japan, Russia, Taiwan, Indonesia, and India. I have to say we’re super excited and a little stunned!

The Reason for Writing the Book, The Bezos Letters

You may wonder why I have written this book and what makes it different from other “here’s how to grow your business” books.

The fact is, I’ve always been fascinated by risk (and, yes, that’s helpful if you’re in the insurance industry!). However, over the last number of years, I began to think about risk differently and to look at it from a different viewpoint — not as something to be avoided at all costs but something to be intelligently and intentionally embraced (yes, that may sound a bit radical coming from someone who’s been in the insurance industry for 35 years!).

However, hear me out… things are changing so rapidly that I (and others whom I respect) have begun to think that risk, itself, might actually be a good thing. I came up with a hypothesis that to be successful in today’s business environment, many businesses may actually not be taking enough risk.

Which led me to Jeff Bezos and Amazon. I’ve always been amazed at how Bezos has been able to grow the company into the giant it is today. Being a “techie,” I came across and actually read the letters to shareholders that Jeff Bezos has written for the past 21 years. I was amazed to discover that he essentially had laid out — “hidden in plain sight” — how he has grown Amazon from a bootstrapped startup to the fastest company ever to hit $100 billion in sales — and in my opinion, that’s happened primarily by how he has embraced risk.

I analyzed and pulled out 14 growth principles Bezos used that can help us all become more efficient, productive, and successful. And the good news is they are applicable for businesses and organizations of almost any type and size.

All that being said, I’m very excited about this book being able to make a difference in businesses today.

How You Can Help

Many of you have asked me how you can help get the word out about The Bezos Letters, and I’d be honored for your help to promote this book and message.

Pre-order your print copy of The Bezos Letters from your favorite retailers like Barnes & Noble, Amazon, or your favorite independent bookseller. (The ebook and audiobook are already available online.)

Here’s why this is so important: the week before the book’s public release on September 17 (the week starting September 10) bookstore buyers watch pre-orders to see what books are trending, and they will want to stock it on their shelves.

  • A pre-publication PDF of The Bezos Letters so you can begin reading immediately ($17.95 value)
  • The “Rest of the Letters” (the entire collection of 21 years of Jeff Bezos’ shareholder letters [they aren’t printed in the book] with my 14 Risk and Growth Principles highlighted) ($297 value)
  • The Bezos Letters: Risk and Growth Study Guide ($27 value)
  • A printable PDF of my Risk and Growth Principles infographic (free gift)

2) Write a Review

If you purchase and read The Bezos Letters, then you can help me by writing an honest review on your favorite platform. Reviews, especially from verified purchasers, help the book become more visible to site algorithms that promote the book to other users and buyers.

3) Become a Member of My Book Launch Team—with exclusive bonuses just for you

I am also putting together a team of people who want to help promote the book to their business, team, co-workers, members, and on social media.

I am fortunate to have many people I highly respect endorse The Bezos Letters. Here is what Amy Zupon, CEO, Vertafore, said about the book:

“Whether you’re a multibillion-dollar tech giant or a small, family-run company, in today’s business landscape, staying where you are is falling behind. With The Bezos Letters, Steve Anderson offers his own special brand of insight into how Amazon has kept moving forward to become one of the defining business success stories in modern history. Steve’s examination of Amazon’s core principles is practical, enthralling, and essential for anyone — personally or professionally — and especially the entrepreneur who aspires to seize new opportunities and climb to new heights.”
