According to LinkedIn, small businesses make up 99.7% of U.S. employer firms, with over 10 million U.S. small business leaders using the LinkedIn platform to help reach and engage their clients.
LinkedIn is a community that can help you grow your business, whether that means acquiring new customers, bringing in exceptional talent, or extending your professional network. LinkedIn recently rolled out a new feature designed to help freelancers and small businesses grow their business.
While word-of-mouth continues to be an excellent way to generate new business, small businesses (like insurance agencies) can and should take advantage of the new, digital word-of-mouth.
Share That You Are Open for Business Right on Your Profile
This new feature allows you to share what services you provide directly on your profile. This is a great way to quickly indicate to LinkedIn members that you are “open for business.” One of the categories (there are 14 total) is insurance. Once selected, you can add the types of insurance you offer on your profile so other members can reach out to learn more about your work and available services.
This update is being rolled out initially only to freelancers and small business leaders who have a U.S. Premium Business subscription. However, the company anticipates making it available to all U.S.-based freelancers and small business leaders sometime this fall.
This new profile enhancement is potentially a very big deal.
Steps to Add Services to Your LinkedIn Profile
To make this update, simply:
- Visit your profile page from your mobile app or desktop, and if this feature is turned on for you, you’ll see a box under your profile photo/headline that talks about how to showcase the services you provide.
- Click “Add Services,” and then fill out the form to provide details about the services you provide. Be as detailed as possible, so members who view this section have a good sense for what you offer.
- Click “Continue,” and this will automatically be added to your profile.
Isn’t it great when clients come knocking on your door looking to hire? Once you have enabled this new feature, other LinkedIn members looking for help will be able to filter their general LinkedIn searches for service providers. Because you add services to your profile, you’ll show up in these search results.
For example, if you’ve noted that you provide insurance services, and a member searches for “insurance,” they’ll now be able to see you in their search results with a highlight about the services you provide. From there, they can message you directly to inquire about your services.
LinkedIn started rolling this feature out to small business leaders and freelancers who have a Premium Business subscription in the U.S. this week.
