Over the last few months, Zoom has become a popular platform to use for virtual meetings.
Zoom has a feature that allows you to quickly add a custom background to the image projected during a meeting.
The Virtual Background feature allows you to display an image or video as your background during a Zoom meeting. This feature works best with a green screen and uniform lighting to help Zoom detect the difference between you and your background.
You can also upload your images or videos as a virtual background. There are no size restrictions when adding your virtual backgrounds, but we recommend cropping the image to match the aspect ratio of your camera before uploading it.
Example: If your camera is set to 16:9, an image of 1280 x 720 pixels or 1920 x 1080 pixels will work well.
Your Zoom background image should have an aspect ratio of 16:9 with a minimum resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.
There are now several platforms that allow you to create images that fit the requirements for a Zoom background. Canva has many templates you can use (both pictures and videos) to create your personalized image. Think about creating an image with your company name and logo, including your name and title. This allows you to display your brand during every meeting as a simple way to reinforce who you are.
You can also add a video to your background (MP4 or MOV file format) with a minimum resolution of 480 x 360 pixels (360p) and a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (1080p).
My only caution on using background video is that it should not distract from people viewing you during the virtual meeting.
One of the things we have learned during the pandemic is that virtual meetings can work. I believe many organizations will continue to use virtual meetings as an effective way to communicate with clients and prospects. I had one agent tell me that they thought their Zoom account would be temporary. They now think it’s essential as they move forward.
