I published an article in November 2018 describing a simple service that agencies could use to engage with their customers via text messaging. I have received a few questions regarding a comparable service because SimplTxt is no longer available.

While I have not done extensive research comparing various platforms, it appears that is an alternative worthy of consideration.

My first option would be to use whatever text messaging services are available in your agency management system platform. My reason is simple. It probably will be much easier to document those text messages in the client file.

Yet, if you don’t want to use that capability or your management system platform doesn’t offer that capability, then Zipwhip might be an option.

The Ultimate Guide to Texting Your Customers

As I was looking around the site, I found a document they put together called “The Ultimate Guide to Texting Your Customers.”

According to our 2020 State of Texting report, 91% of consumers have received a text from a business. Texting is one of the easiest and most effective tools a business can adopt to improve customer engagement, increase sales, and streamline staff productivity. But as with the adoption of any new tool, there are many important steps to implementing a business-texting strategy effectively.

We designed this texting guide as a resource to walk you through each of those steps — from choosing the right tool and training your team to market your new texting capability and sending your first message.

This free guide includes:

  • What to look for when evaluating business-texting services
  • Best practices for TCPA compliance in texting
  • Texting etiquette tips for your team
  • How to market your new texting capability to customers
  • And much more!

You will need to provide your agency information to download this guide. You can always unsubscribe from their marketing emails later. Whether you decide to use their service or not, it is probably worth downloading the guide as a refresher for your organization.

What is your organization using for a texting solution?

  1. Thanks Steve, timely as ever. We have been using ZipWhip for 2+ years and it’s a good program. The one big disappointment is that we were told when we signed on that sending pdf’s was “in the works.” Zilch, nada, nothing to date. “Why does it matter?,” because to text an auto ID card (allowable in MD to have an electronic card), we have to convert the pdf from our AMS to a jpg to send it. It would also be nice if printing a text thread gave more date and time information and was organized better (we typically print the text thread to a pdf and then email it to ourselves to attach to the AMS.

  2. We use Podium as our Texting platform and have been very happy. It was very intuitive and easy for our staff to adopt, and it is a great experience for our customers.
