I make the argument that the future of insurance marketing and communications will become heavily influenced by the rapidly escalating advancement of ‘thinking’ computers such as IBM’s Watson. The industry is already taking advantage of machine learning. The head of Swiss Re states: “It (IBM’s Watson) will do a whole lot of work and very quickly. There will be more accurate underwriting, and to a certain extent it probably removes some human emotion in terms of decision-making too.” Watson is only one of a host of machines on the way.
